在 GSA Today 上发表了一篇关于 Zealandia: Earth’s Hidden Continent 的文章：http://www.geosociety.org/gsatoday/archive/27/3/article/GSATG321A.1.htm。文章措辞非常严谨。Mortimer 在文章标题中将 Zealandia 称为被隐藏起来的大陆。并在摘要中写道：Its isolation from Australia and large area support its definition as a continent—Zealandia。Zealandia 独立于澳大利亚，并且面积巨大，是将其定义为大陆的有力证据。还进一步缩小范围到：The identification of Zealandia as a geological continent, rather than a collection of continental islands, fragments, and slices, more correctly represents the geology of this part of Earth.将 Zealandia 作为一个地质意义上的大陆，而不是一个大陆群岛，大陆碎块，或者碎条的集合，能更准确地描述地球此区域的地质情况。
甚至还补充了大陆的例子：Perhaps this is because it is assumed that the names of the six geological continents—Eurasia, Africa, North America, South America, Antarctica, and Australia—suffice to describe all major regions of continental crust. 也许这是因为他假定这六个地质意义上的大陆名称——欧亚大陆，非洲大陆，北美大陆，南美大陆，南极洲大陆，澳洲大陆——已经足够描述所有主要的大陆地壳了。
接着，一个“science journalist”（科学记者？），Alexandra Witze 杀了出来。

Alexandra Witze 用她自己的“方式”，灌水了一篇 Nature 的 news 版，并且用了一个惊悚的标题：Geologists spy an eighth continent: Zealandia。地质学家侦查到了第八个大陆，Zealandia。http://www.nature.com/news/geologists-spy-an-eighth-continent-zealandia-1.21503然而，当你打开这篇科学记者的报道，你会发现下面只有一篇参考文献：

也就是说，她有一多半的可能只看了这一篇文献，采访了几个学者，截取了几句话。并且把地理和地质意义上的大陆概念弄模糊“there is no widely accepted definition of a continent”“没有公认的大陆定义”（那 Mortimer 的文章里写的是啥），然后“不经意间”将 Zealandia 就称为了第八块大陆。然而，如果要作为地理意义上的大陆，第一条要求就是陆地面积巨大。虽然她拥有 MIT geology 的学位……但也没法掩盖她将地理和地质混淆的故意，以及一个标题党记者灌水 Nature 的远大志向…
最后，中国人登场啦，将 Continent 直接翻译成了洲。这下再也翻不回去了……
如果 Alexandra Witze 曾有认真对待过她的标题，她就应该用 the seventh geological continent“第七个地质意义上的大陆”，因为本来也就 6 个而已。然而这种标题一点也不惊悚，一点也吸引不了眼球，地质历史上的大陆也多了去了，印度也曾经是大陆，华北也曾经是大陆。
另外，我的个人观点，Zealandia 跟澳洲大陆明明就是在一起的，划分为一个地块（block）就足够了。
所以，一切都是为了吸引眼球。
